Paraphrasing IELTS Speaking Questions
In IELTS speaking part one, you
are not given time to prepare your
answer. Thus, it is important to strengthen your quick thinking ability. Paraphrasing a
question gives you time to arrange your thoughts. While you are paraphrasing
the question , think of what you are going to say next and how to end your
sentence.
Repetition of the same words is a
mark down in fluency and coherence in IELTS Speaking criteria. Therefore,
using synonyms or related
expressions of the keyword saves you.
When you answer, avoid saying the same noun, verb, adjective, and adverb used
in the question. Look at the example below:
Do you like hiking?
Answer: Oh, I find pleasure in long period of walking.
How much time do you usually spend hiking?
Answer: Well, I am quite a busy person, but I always find at least a
couple of hours of hiking on weekends.
Now, try to paraphrase the questions below.
1. Do you have a favorite dish?
2. Do you love cooking?
Supporting your Answer
IELTS Speaking parts 2 and 3 test your ability to express your
thoughts. If you answer in just a sentence length, you won’t get a high mark. If
the question asks for your opinion , then give reasons and arguments. Expound your answer in considerable length.
Example :
How much time do you usually spend on hiking?
Well, I am quite a busy person, but I always find at least a
couple of hours hiking on weekends. For instance, if I really don’t have time
hiking up mountain, I walk to the supermarket instead of driving.
